Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease. There is currently an epidemic of chlamydia in the UK with up to 1 in 10 women under 25 being affected. A similar proportion of women who have had a new partner within the last year are also affected.
Chlamydia can cause a condition called pelvic inflammatory disease. This causes infertility in 17% of women who have had one episode and 29% of women who have had two episodes.
Chalmydia can be prevented by using condoms and is easily tested for. Treatment is often just one antibiotic tablet.
